Extra layers

Postby omedina » Sat Apr 11, 2009 3:11 am

When I import an Autocad file (ver 2000) into an Irricad design many layers (more than 15), whose names are just numbers and are empty, are created. These layers can be removed, but the problem is that when one does this then the layers of some items may be exchanged. I am using Irricad Pro ver 9.26, but this also happened with the previous versions.

Hi Onesimo,

Do you mean that items have changed layers after the extra layers have been removed? Items should still be on the same named layer, though, of course, the layer number will change.

Do you have an example AutoCAD design that shows this problem that you could send us?

Thanks

Hi Dan:
Thanks for your reply. As requested, I will be sending you a zip file containing an Irricad design, the database used, and an Autocad file (ver 2000). The zip file will have to be sent to your e-mail address because it is too big to be attached here. When opening the Irricad design and checking Settings, Layers, you can see that the last layer is Dim2. Now please proceed importing the Autocad file attached called "Tuberia Principal Instalada" and check again the Layers of the Irricad design. When I do this the following layers are created: 27, Defprints, Tuberia principal Bomba O - LA, and layers 30 to 53. All these new layers are empty except Tuberia principal Bomba O - LA . Please let me know why the extra empty layers are created and how to solve this.

Best regards,
omedina

Hi Onesimo,

This appears to be a bug, or at least a change in the way VisualCADD handles layer importation. Working correctly, we would expect to see layers 27, Defpoints and Tuberia principal Bomba O - LA imported, as these are the three layers present in the DWG file (actually, layer 0 is translated to 27). It is layers 30-53 that are incorrectly created. Unfortunately, there is currently no way to prevent these layers from being created and they must simply be ignored or deleted.

We will add this to our list of things to fix.

Regards,

Dan

Hello Dan,

I have experienced this before but I narrowed it down to it only happens when you have doubled up layer names. Layer 0 in AutoCad will automatically defer to layer 27 I believe but the other numbers that appear are created if you import the same AutoCad file twice, or there is a layer name that is used twice.

Hi Dan,

I have also had this problem. You mention that there is no fix to stop the creation of extra layers; delete them when this happens. But that leaves the problem where objects change/transfer to a different layer when one deletes some of these extra layers (as Omedina mentioned, Apr 11). Is there a way of getting around this?

Thanks,

Robbie

Hi Robbie,

Ah. I wasn't sure if I was misunderstanding Onesimo on that point. It is not (supposed to be) possible to delete layers that have objects on them, and thus no objects should 'move layers' when layers are deleted. As Matt suggests, there may be an issue with duplicate layer names though.

You wouldn't happen to have an example of this behaviour would you?

Good morning!

I believe that this type of problem is very small irricad before others.
This latest version of the program, as well as earlier quit unexpectedly and with it lost all settings the same. I think this is one of the problems should be solved with more urgency.

Excellent sought to improve the program would be at the moment of the layout of operations at the plant for export to Autocad. Should, besides the indication of each flow control valve, insert the area that each one serves. This would help the designers mainly in Brazil, where he works with a wide diversity of cultures and customers with several peculiarities.

Thanks for the opportunity;

Good Afternoon Giancarlo,

We are looking in to the loss of settings after some crashes, though this is very difficult to replicate as it does not occur at all times. After a crash, the message will have a blue underlined 'click here' which is helpful to the programmers in some cases as it will tell them were and why the crash happened. Copy this information into an email and send it to us.

I am not sure what you mean by "layout of operations". Are you referring to Management? By using Design|Assign Zones to System Flows, the management symbol is created. This symbol can then be placed on the design using Draw|Management Symbol. The design then can be exported to Autocad.

When using Block Entities Tape Irrigation Block and Spray Irrigation Block, the irrigated area for each valve can be automatically labeled. In Version 10 (coming soon) unconnected spraylines can also be used in Block Entities.

I hope this is helpful.

Kind regards,

Version 10.5, due out soon, has a dockable and therefore easily accessed Layer Manager, for turning layers on and off, and even to print or not to print layers. Layer groups and saved views are also introduced.
